London Collection: Men was a whirlwind scurry of shows, presentations, street style, and more.  Day 1 was intense but we were able to see a lot, and of course…we had our favorites!

Some of BDMOTP´s personal favorites from Day One were Hentsch Man and Spencer Hart.

Hentsch Man

Hentsch Man was a static presentation of models placed in a funky, artisic garage space in central London.  As guests sipped on Mexican beer and ate popcorn, they discussed the chilled-out group of models in a variety of relaxed, comfortable garments.  The Hentsch Man collection ¨We Met by Accident¨ can be described as ¨the nostalgic backwater of America¨.

Hentschman 1

The models were shaggy haired and bearded, and looked laid back and relaxed.  Cowboy hats and boots were present, as was a distinct 70´s vibe.  Native American prints, cool plaids, and faded t-shirts give a certain New Mexician desert feel.

BDMOTP especially favored this gold coat.

Spencer Hart

After Hentscham, the BDMOTP team was blown away by the Spencer Hart catwalk.  This line was elegant, spring-like, serene and just fantastic.  The main fabric present was linen, and it was used in the way of short and long shirts, blazers, jackets, pants, topcoats, shorts, scarves and more.  Every piece that walked down the runway was stylish and wearable.   We especially loved the colors: so much  navy and white, fitting for spring.

Make sure to note BDMOTP favorite, the long linen navy topcoat!

Flights delayed, missed my connection, got bumped from AA to BA, but eventually found my way to London to begin my European Mens Fashion Weeks tour.  The first event, London Collections Men SS14 – Day One started for me and my team at the Hentsch Man Presentation.  Casual pieces that all looked  comfortable yet rugged.  One piece in particular caught my eye, a gold jacket sported well by model Chris Chasseaud.  We are off to a good start at LCM.

We then scurried over to the Spencer Hart runway show.  When we entered the room to the sounds of James Brown, I had a good feeling about the show.  Once they broke into Parliament Funkadelic “Knee Deep” as the show began, I knew it was on!  As I danced in my seat, I enjoyed and appreciated the entire line.  Moderately edgy yet very wearable, top to bottom.  My favorite piece was a blue linen topcoat.

Although a bit jet-lagged the shows/presentations offered just enough excitement to get me underway and through the day.

The Gucci Museum

Gucci.  An emblematic Italian brand.

Believe it or not, Gucci goes way back in history, and no visit to Florence, Italy, would be complete without passing through this unique space: The Gucci Museum.

The museum is a tribute to Gucci, who opened his first store in Florence back in 1921.  The musuem is almost 2000 square meters, spanned accross three floors, and divided into different sections inspired by the different Gucci symbols over the years.

The ground floor has a coffee shop and an outdoor terrance, which you can get a cup of delicious ¨Gucci¨themed coffee.

The ground floor is also home to the exclusive gift shop, where one can purchase iconic and special edition Gucci items.  It´s also home to the bookstore, which has the most fabulous extensive collection of coffee table books I have ever seen, including books on architecture, photography, home decoration, and of course, fashion.

The highlight of the gift shop was the Gucci Special Edition Sunglasses for Men, available ONLY at the Gucci Museum.

Madrid ManMAN 1924 is a Madrid is a boutique which originally opened in Bilabao, Spain and then opened it´s second location in Madrid.

The store has a family history to it, as many spanish businesses do.  MAN 1924 represents three generations of luxury pattern making and entrepreneurship.  Carlos Castillo opened the first  store in Bilbao when he was just 18 as a homage to his grandfather who started the brand MAN.

When I first visited their website, I noticed there was an option to put the page in English.  Score!  Many Spanish businessed haven´t caught up yet and put their websites in English, so I knew this place was on point.  I decided I absolutely had to pay a visit to the Madrid location to scope it out.

Visually, the boutique (having been refurbished in 2011) is fresh, well lit and spaced with many windows.  The simple decoration lets the the clothes speak for themselves.

The MAN 1924 brand had many options for the dressy and casual client.  Their in house brand offers suits, casual wear, ties, blazers, tuxedos and made to measure.  Each season, the shop likes to carry a few other brands, and this spring Lacoste and New Balance were a few of the selections.

I particularly liked the selection of spring merchadise.  They offered a lot of linen options, as well as boat shoes, several styles of hats, a beautiful display of uniquely patterned scarves, and also had a large selection of swimsuits.

During my visit, I had the opportunity to chat with the manager, Tito for a bit, as well as some of the other worker.  They were all very imformative and helpful, and explained to me a bit about the stores history and vision.   I also watched as they helped other clients, and the customer service seemed to be impeccable.  This could come in handy if you are ordering a made-to-measure suit, for example.  One client even stopped to tell me this was  ¨La mejor tienda para hombres en todo Madrid¨-the best menswear shop in Madrid!  They obviously have a very loyal customer base.  Visiting this store is a must if you live in or are passing through Madrid.

Biffi is a must if you are shopping in Northern Italy.  With locations for both men and women in both Milan and Bergamo, it´s the perfect place to shop if you want designer brands but something a little different the the big names like Dolce & Gabana or Versace.

All store locations are large and bright, and that extra space is needed as to house their large selection of designer brands.  Of course, it has that extra sleek and cool feel…I find that many shops in Italy give off that vibe.

Biffi 4 Biffi 5

For men, choose from 7 for all Mankind Jeans to Lanvin to Moncler.  They have almost 30 menswear brands just for clothes alone, and about 12 for accessories, including Cappalletti, Kolor and Tendence.   And if it is big, bright designer names you desire, they also have a small spattering:  Dior, Gucci and Fendi.  And of course, this is JUST menswear.  Pick something up for your sister, wife, or mother in the extensive women´s section.

El Ganso’s philosophy is in offering quality and an alternative touch at a price you can afford. It has a full range of menswear, from casual to more classy: perfectly fit tartan, woolen or linen blazers, comfortable navy-style duffle coats, shirts, cardigans and jumpers, a wide range of neckwear and accessories. All items come in fun and matching colors. Here you can find perfect combo for the occasion either it’s a job interview or a Saturday night out.

El Ganso is a family company of two brothers Álvaro and Clemente Cebrián. They started in 2006 from a small store in downtown Madrid selling trousers and shoes. Soon after they enhanced their collections with sports jackets and polo shirts and opened boutiques in Portugal, France and United Kingdom.

The store on Caranby Street brings you into the atmosphere of the 70s nostalgia, which suggests a leisurely shopping in a cozy vintage environment. The staff are very helpful and friendly, ready to give an advice and very quick on size request.

Firis Fashion Vienna is a boutique in the heart of central Vienna that carries not only well-known designer name brands, but also young and new brands and fashion labels that may be just starting out.

Firis explains, ¨It is not always the name, it is the person behind the label that interests me. If I like the person behind the label, I usually like the designs. This attention to likable and quality merchandise (and designers) helps to create a relaxed and intriguing shopping experience for the customer.  The boutique also appeals to many as it sells both menswear and womenswear.

It´s always refreshing to find new designers in boutiques. You never know who will be the next big thing! It´s impressive that this boutique believes enough in young designers to include them hanging next to big names like Dries Van Noten, Kristensen du Nord, the Row, and Water. The store´s philosophy is ¨feel good and be positive¨ which is a great way to start of a day of shopping!
