Dom Bagnato takes us back to an era of Italian mafia superstars. Loose-fitting suits paired with fedoras and hats remind us of a early 20th century lower Manhattan look. But don’t worry, there are some modern updates on the suits too. Bagnato plays a bit with color and offers up several suits with the blazer a different color with the trousers, which gives off a more casual, weekend vibe.

Of course, we can’t lose sight of that signature hat, which is perfectly paired with a beige long coat, layered over a patched scarf—the perfect mix between vintage and modern. In fact, it’s great to see that hats will be continuing to trend, as they are here to stay for spring and fall 2016.

BDMOTP is thrilled to know that oxblood (some call it wine, some call it maroon) will continue to maintain a stylish ground for menswear This purplish-red tone makes for a dapper yet trendy suit and looks good on practically any skintone on any gentleman, which is why we love it so much. Thankfully, Aquila has created quite a few dapper oxblood looks for the coming season, including a suit (with a lighter-toned oxblood shirt, a purplish toned pocket square and even deep red socks—way to kick this one out of the oxblood ballpark Aquila). We also see the color featured in sportswear and scarves.

Plaid is layered upon button-ups and and under scarves and some lovely leather briefcases and totes (again, some more oxblood). Navy comes in along with some white to break out the oxblood and we also enjoyed the variety of shoes, which included some trendy white gym shoes and some leather boots (all with socks, which means Aquila didn’t partake in the Australian no-sock trend).

Arthur Galan was definitely a BDMOTP favorite at Melbourne Fashion Week. Models sported a bold collection from a designer which loves to add a little bit of detail to suits and sportswear.
The shearling-lined leather coats an
d bright red boarding school inspired blazers wowed the crowd and the looks, while fashionable and cool, still seemed to maintain a comfortable wearability any gentleman might crave.

Tighter, shorter trousers (again, sans socks—we here at BDMOTP have deemed this to be an Australian trend?) were paired with patterned and edged blazers with fun touches like a red velvet bowtie or a bright red shirt underneath. In fact, red seemed to be the accent color of choice which really gave a whole new life to the collection.

Calibre was right on trend with the longer trench coats and relaxed spring jackets. In fact, a great variety of styles and trends were shown within the collection. One gentleman could really have all his fashion needs covered with the Calibre collection, as it offered relaxed sportswear like sweaters and khakis, denim and weekend looks, crisp suits for the office and of course, some coiffed formal wear (again, we see a velvet blazer, however, paired with jeans isn’t really what BDMOTP imagined) including some silk jackets.

Let’s not forget the useful and supple leather weekender bags that any man would find perfect for a weekend getaway or even a very trendy gym bag, in a pinch.

Welcome to the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Week. The menswear collections this season were on point, starting off with designer MJ Bale who played with British elegance and flair. Seemingly formal and rather dapper, classical suits and preppy plaids walked the runway. Layers gave the garments a modern touch and some funky patterned ties fashionably clashed with the plaids and gave the more basic suits a little pizzazz.  Colors didn’t really deviate from a navy blue color palette, except of course, to offer a khaki trench.

Longer trenches and coats covered the suits and despite the wintery flair, many of the models skipped socks, which must be an Australian trend as the British certainly love a nice patterned sock peeking out beneath a cuffed trouser.

The one indulgence was a velvet blazer and bowtie, giving clients an elegant, black tie option that really offers up a Thomas Pink or Chester Barrie, Savile Row-style feel. Welcome to London, er, Melbourne, gentlemen.

Vanishing Elephant was probably one of the trendiest collections to walk the menswear Melbourne runways, and had a distinct Brooklyn hipster vibe.

Chunky glasses and hats topped off oversize sweaters and denim shirts layered skinny, cuffed pants over boots, for a casual weekend look. The youthful designs are perfect weekend-wear for a young gentleman wanting to look good, but not fussy. A sexy, tousled kind of style for men who want to look as if they don’t care (except they do).

The clothing is made from soft and stylish materials, for added and extra comfort. These are clothes you love to wear.

The Vanishing Elephant motto is “Honest clothing for everyone, everyday.” And really, that’s exactly what it is.

Layering was the name of the game for M.J. Bale at Melbourne Fashion Week. Suits expertly tailored, covered by dandy scarves and professional trench coats, topped off with just the perfect touch, like a quirky bowtie.

Again, we see some of that London inspiration here, in the form of that Savile Row tailoring and suiting up. Suits in various plaids, window panes and pinstripes made for a traditional yet stylish collection.

If it all just seems all little to poised for you, don’t worry–M.J. Bale is the official clothier partner of the Australian Soccer team, Australian cricket team, Australian polo team and local Super rugby sides, the NSW Waratahs, ACT Brumbies and Western Force.

Looks like M.J. Bale is more than just suits, and can appeal to a sporty, more casual man as well.

Calibre showed a concise menswear collection at Melbourne Fashion Week reminiscent of London’s Savile Row. Expert tailoring and casual yet elegant suits and blazers are the Calibre signature style. The collection that walked the runway seemed to be inspired by the 1970’s–plaid suits and slim, stylish silhouettes.

Despite the 70’s influence, the collection was very much “in the now” with trendy color oxblood and layered pieces.

The brand itself is considered to be a pioneer in the Australia fashion world, showing its first collection 25 years back. The dandy, debonair looks take sharp suiting to a whole new level. Any made who wants a stylish suit would be smart to select Calibre.

Cue Virgin America Melbourne Fashion Week, which showcased a variety of collections for both women and men. Arthur Galan was a top contender for best menswear, showing his collection based on modern elegance.

Using an adventurous bold red to highlight the collection among the subdued blacks and grays, the Arthur Galan collection shined through with trends like plaids and leather. Cuffed skinny pants with white gym shoes make this collection upfront and urban.

Almost every look featured a different style of jacket, some short, some long, some featuring zipper closures, some button, a motorcycle jacket and a classic trench. There is something for every man in the Arthur Galan collection.

Currently, Arthur Galan is sold locally throughout Australia at 22 locations.

BDMOTP favorite: Plaid red jacket and leather jacket
